"Chilean Education and the role of future teachers"

First of all, I think that Chilean Education of this time is very different and difficult, because from one side teachers must confront behaviors that they weren’t used to confront or to face with their students and also the other side, that involve many aspects that provoke this situation.

I agree with some people that the roots of these problems comes deeper than we think, I’m referring specifically to the government, maybe the goals that they expect to get are not really focus on the reality of this country. I feel that out country doesn’t have an identity in relation to education, and it is a problem that comes from a long time ago, and now the consequences are appearing, mainly on student’s behavior. Nowadays, from my personal point of view I believe also that teachers have forgotten some aspects that are fundamental in Education, mainly values, but that it is just a part because it is impossible to don’t give the main responsibility to the Family and probably our society change in relation to it, for me a sad situation.

In relation to me as a future teacher, I must say that I am scared, because students are so difficult , mainly teenagers, that I’m seriously thinking I’m going to start teaching to little kids, they haven’t lost respect for others “in a way” and that gives me hope, I need to give them values, I know that my first task is to teach them about English, but my heart tells me that I’m for something else not only for giving them English tools, according to our reality, the world has lost the real meaning of life, and in a way if I can stop all those bad things in my future students I promise that I will be satisfy and very happy. I must confess that I’m not sure yet about if this is my vocation, sometimes I feel that is not, maybe I made a mistake choosing this career and I will figure it out the next year, and that makes me feel nervous, but at the same time motivated, for me to be the teacher that I want to be is a big challenge, and I know that I will make it, I promised to myself.

The Colosseum

Roman citizens during 29 – 68 A.D. needed an amphitheatre, and the only one built until that time was too small. The emperor of that time called Caligula started the works for a new amphitheatre, but for many reasons he had to stop when a new emperor came to the power, after him came another emperor, and another, and all they tried to built a amphitheatre, but non of them could construct something that could survive through time, and also satisfy the needs of citizens, until the Flavian Family got the power, and the new emperor that represented them called Vespasian, chosen by the Senate, decided to reconcile the Roman citizens with the new masters building something extremely gorgeous, called The Colosseum.

The construction of this wonderful amphitheatre started in 72 A.D and took ten years to finish it. During the period of construction, after Vespasian, took control of the building his son called Titus but was completed by the following emperor, Domitian, Titus' brother. When construction was complete they celebrated it with magnificent games that lasted one hundred days. After a period of time, the Colosseum was characterized by held games, the most popular were hunt (the venations) and gladiatorial games ( the munera). The organization of the games, which involved great expenses, became a matter of public interest and was regulated by many laws, people even established foundations in their wills, intended to finance these games after their death with the money from the interests. In relation to fighters(gladiators), the prisons were the places where the gladiators had their training for fighting against beasts, that was a kind of show for citizens. The Colosseum lasted in service for four and a half centuries, because of different situations that deteriorate its structure, for several reasons, for example big fires that began because the theatre was struck by thunderbolts, and earthquakes, but the main reason for the end of the games was the military and financial crisis of the western part of the empire. The last gladiatorial combat is recorded in 404, and the last hunt in 523. Finally, in VIII-IX centuries the amphitheatre was completely abandoned.
In conclusion, this huge construction represent a symbol of Rome’s History and also it is a wonderful example of roman architecture. Nowadays is conserved in good conditions because it is used as a tourist attraction, also was selected as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

EARTHQUAKE A NATURAL DISASTER

Description

Earthquakes are geologic events, also described as the shaking, vibration, rolling or sudden shock of the earth’s surface, that follows a release of energy in the Earth's crust caused by the sudden dislocation of material within the earth's outer layer, and can be felt over large areas although they usually last less than one minute. Some of them are so slight that they are barely felt and others are so violent that cause extensive damage.
Every earthquake has an epicenter that it is the point on the Earth's surface directly above the focus. The location of an earthquake is commonly described by the geographic position of its epicenter and by its focal depth.

Causes
Earthquakes are caused by stresses below the earth's outer surface. These stresses usually build up until the rocks fracture along a *fault plane. This causes vibrations, also known as *seismic waves and then, they travel in all directions from the area of fracture. In large earthquakes seismic waves may be detected over the entire earth.
Also this phenomenon is caused by a release of energy that can be generated by a sudden dislocation of segments of the crust, by a volcanic eruption, or event by manmade explosions, but until now the most destructive earthquakes are the one’s that are caused by dislocations of the crust.

*A fault is a fracture in the Earth's crust along which two blocks of the crust have slipped with respect to each other.
* Some seismic waves travel through the earth's interior while others travel only over the earth's surface, but there are two types of body waves. The primary wave, is the faster of the two and always travel at higher speeds than the other, so whenever an earthquake occurs, the primary waves are the first to arrive and to be recorded at geophysical research stations worldwide. These waves are transmitted through all parts of the earth. And the other wave, also called shear waves are slower than the primary waves and causes lateral vibrations.

Consequences
Earthquakes produce various damaging effects to the areas they act upon. This includes damage to buildings and in worst cases the loss of human life. The effects of the rumbling produced by earthquakes usually leads to the destruction of structures such as buildings, bridges, dams and also provoke landslides.

We don't have methods for prevention because Earthquakes cannot be predicted but scientists are working on it.

Second assignment

THE RETREAT

by Henry Vaughan

HAPPY those early days, when I
Shin'd in my angel-infancy !
Before I understood this place
Appointed for my second race,
Or taught my soul to fancy ought
But a white, celestial thought ;
When yet I had not walk'd above
A mile or two from my first love,
And looking back—at that short space—
Could see a glimpse of His bright face ;
When on some gilded cloud, or flow'r,
My gazing soul would dwell an hour,
And in those weaker glories spy
Some shadows of eternity ;
Before I taught my tongue to wound
My conscience with a sinful sound,
Or had the black art to dispense
A sev'ral sin to ev'ry sense,
But felt through all this fleshly dress
Bright shoots of everlastingness.
O how I long to travel back,
And tread again that ancient track !
That I might once more reach that plain,
Where first I left my glorious train ;
From whence th' enlighten'd spirit sees
That shady City of palm-trees.
But ah ! my soul with too much stay
Is drunk, and staggers in the way !
Some men a forward motion love,
But I by backward steps would move ;
And when this dust falls to the urn,
In that state I came, return.

ANALYSIS

1.-Who's the speaker and who's speaking to?
Speaker: The writer
he's speaking to: no one in special, he is talking about his childhood and life in general.

2.-Type of vocabulary
In some way he used a reflexive vocabulary (memories), not angry or violent, just reflexive about his life.
He went back to his earlier days, remembering.

3.-Literary figures founded.
*Angel infancy
*Or taught my soul to a fancy ought
*My gazing soul would dwell an hour
*My conscience with a sinful sound
*fleshly dress
*But my soul too much stay, is drunk and staggers in the way

4.- What's the poem about?
The poem is about writer's life, childhood, his personal experiences, for example his first love, his thoughts, memories and finally, if i understood he spoke about life after life at the end of the poet:

"And when this dust falls to the urn,
in that state i came, return."

5.-Opinion about the poem
I think that the poem maybe is talking about Youth, because his drescriptions are related with his childhood, his early days, and how in some way he comes back to life..., for me, it was a little bit confusing.

King Lear

Regan: Sister of Goneril and King Lear's daughter.
Goneril: Regan's sister and King Lear's daughter.
King Lear
Edmund:Edgar's brother and Gloucester's son.
Cordelia: King Lear's daughter.
Edgar: Gloucester's son.
It is a sad begin and a tragic end.
First,Edmund ordered to a man (soldier) to take Cordelia and the King to prison, and also he ordered him to assassinate them. Edmund, Edgar and Albany were against the king.
After that a daughter of the king died, apparently poisoned, and when the king knows this he lost his mind, he had no reason to live anymore. Finaly he also died.

Computerized teaching programs

From my point of view, this probably are going to be good tool in Education, because i guess for students this are going to be more interested.
It is difficult at the same time because if nowadays students have lost respect with their own parents, how this type of teaching can teach them about values day after day if today for us, as teachers is so difficult to try student learn about it.
I think it's a good option, but we must not consider it as a whole in Education.
